Will The Treeman Of Indonesia Ever Find A Cure?

Deep in the hot tropical forests of Java, Indonesia, DEDE JOSWARA takes a heavy look at his massive hands, he is virtually a prisoner in his own body. He has horns (warts) all over his body, he can't walk properly, he can't fish again and he is always weak.

Up till date, no treatment has been found for the condition. At a time, about 95% of Dede's warts were removed surgically but grew back. Not even efforts by the Government of Indonesia and Dr. Anthony Gaspari, Chairman of Dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, USA have brought any impressive result. Dede is still handicapped. Will he ever find a cure? Only time can tell.

Dede Joswara, the Treeman of IndonesiaHe is known all over the globe as the Treeman of Indonesia owing to a grotesque condition that he suffers from, and that is known in the medical world as epidermodysplasia verruciformis (also called Lutz-Lewandowsky or Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia), an extremely rare genetic hereditary skin disorder which is closely associated with an increased predisposition to skin cancer.

Taking a smoke.

Dede is now in his early 40s, he has lost his marriage, career and independence to the disease and is forced to make a living from begging and appearing in freak shows where people pay pennies to watch him. Pitiful.

Dede's legs overgrown with warts.

Contemplating....

Scientists say that it is associated with an unusual susceptibility to a particular virus (human papillomaviruses, HPV), the disorder is named after the scientists who made the first detailed description, Wilhelm Lutz and Felix Lewandowsky.
Normally, the virus causes just small growths but Dede's immune system is weak and that allowed the virus to overflourish in his body.

He was born healthy but when he was 10, he fell in the forest and sustained a knee injury. Shortly after that, small warts started appearing around the wound and later spread to other parts of his body. Imagine living with the for decades.

He has undergone a series of surgeries but the growths keep returning.

Looking up to God?

With Dr. Gaspari who correctly diagnosed him.

And he loves that thing!

His wife of 10 years left him with the daughter and son, and he had to depend on his parents for care and sustenance.

His liver is fragile and doctors are always very cautious.

And Dr. Gaspari said:
"I've never seen anything like this in my entire career."

When will aid come?

Off hands and feet.

There are some questions that science cannot answer, at least for now.
