The Yellow Watermelon

Well, for many of us, the refreshingly delicious watermelon has just one colour on the inside -red. Well, red is not the only colour here, it can be pink, orange, green, white or even YELLOW! And it is the yellow one we will  be looking at here. What makes it special and how is it really different.

Also called the Yellow Flesh or the Yellow Crimson, the yellow watermelon is the same with the red one in shape and appearance but the inside is different. It is sweeter and juicier than the red one, and has a taste that is often compared to honey. In short, if you think the red ones are so sweet, wait until you sink your teeth in the yellow ones! By the way, you may be lucky to come across one that has both colours -a mixture of red and yellow but that is a rarity.

This is what many of us are familiar with.

Watermelon is good for you, it is a good source of vitamins A & C, potassium, lycopene (which has anticancer properties) and is also said to be antihypertensive. So red or yellow, enjoy your watermelon, and yeah, you can play a prank on your friends, serve them the yellow, let them cut it and see the surprise on their faces! ;) Or better still, try out a fruit salad with it on a weekend!

NB: The yellow watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is often considered a fruit, but it's actually a vegetable. Interestingly, a watermelon is 92% water ;)

You can always stick to your normal ones ;)

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR TIME. ENJOY A WATERMELON-FILLED DAY!
