The Tidongs: Where Newlyweds Are Not Allowed To Use The Toilet/Bathroom For Three Days

Found mainly in Malaysia and Indonesia, the Tidongs have very rich cultural practices and traditions. Some of them are really very adorable. For example, a groom is prohibited from seeing the face of his bride until he sings her numerous love songs first.

Another is that during the period of the engagement, a bride is not allowed to come out and when the groom shows up late, he will pay jewelry for fine but that is not even what is most amazing. This is the weirdest part:

Pictures show Tidong couples. Beautifully dressed I must say.
The bride and the groom are strictly forbidden from using the toilet or bathroom for three good days after the wedding proper! Good Lord! Well, it can sound quite weird to you but to the Tidongs, it is a way of life. For the three days, there are relatives watching over them and the tradition is taken seriously. They believe that not doing it will bring evil upon the marriage and there can be divorce, infidelity or even the sudden death of their offspring if this tradition is not observed. During the period, they are fed with very little amounts of food and drink, and after the three days, they are properly bathed and allowed to live a normal life as hubby and honey...lol! What a way to start marital bliss! For me, locking me and my DDDD up in a McDonalds restaurant for the first three days will make more sense sha...lol!
