Citarum River, The World's Dirtiest River

Okay, do you want a swim? Or you even feel like hooking up some fish? Don't try that on Citarum River which is best described as a flowing mass of baggage and rotten materials. Inyanma! 300 kilometers long, it is located in West Java, Indonesia and is used for agricultural, sewerage, electricity and a host of other things (I wonder how they get to do that.)

You will not believe that as heavily polluted as this river is, a total of about 5 million people still live in its basin and depend on it (see pictures). Well, in 2008, the Asian Development Bank called it the dirtiest river in the world and granted a loan of half a billion dollars to clean it up. Well, that is expected to take 15 years. #Still covering my nose o!# By the way, it was once a very clean river -before the humans came. Check it out:>>>>>

Scavenging for a living on the Citarum River.

Poverty is a bastard.

Well, the Citarum River is where he gets his food!

Good God!

Navigating home on Indonesia's River of Rubbish.

Dipping their hands into what?

I am pretty sure nothing lives in the water, at least not a single fish!

And the smell?

WELL, HAPPY SWIMMING!

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
